013: Erin Alley: Rising to Leadership in Architecture through Inquiry, Inclusivity, and Innovation

On today’s episode of Architectette I am delighted to welcome Erin Alley. Erin is an Associate Principal Partner at RMW and is based in their San Francisco Office. Erin and I worked together on several projects during my tenure at RMW and I was so happy to interview her so listeners can learn more about her career journey and experiences. Erin is an outstanding project manager, studio leader, and mentor.

We talk about:  

  • Erin’s start in architecture and how she ended up working on the client side of the industry at Gap. 

  • Work-life balance, motherhood, career coaches, and the importance of getting licensed.  

  • Erin’s leadership at Gensler and later, RMW. She shares tips for supporting clients, connecting with colleagues, and maintaining a healthy, engaging work environment.

  • Erin’s backyard Accessible Dwelling Unit (ADU) which her family designed for her dad.

  • Erin’s hopes for the future and how she is working at RMW to embrace emerging design technologies and increase diversity in the profession.
